Breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty), is a cosmetic surgery procedure that uses either implants, implants and fat or fat on its own, to increase the volume and size of your breasts, helping to achieve more symmetrical, fuller beautifully shaped breasts.
Breast augmentation could help you, if you feel that your breasts are too small or different sizes, you have lost volume due to weight loss or pregnancy or want to address a medical issue. We use only the most appropriate high-quality implants, either round, ergonomic and teardrop shapes, to achieve the desired and most natural look. Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia, administered and monitored by our dedicated anaesthetist. Generally, the surgery takes around one hour.
You’ll be asked the reasons why you want breast augmentation surgery and your desired outcome and expectations. Your medical history will be reviewed including medications, conditions and lifestyle habits that could preclude you from treatment. Dr Ranieri will explain possible outcomes and complications.
An incision will be made either under your breast, around the areola or under your armpit. The surgeon then separates the muscle and connective tissue to make a pocket either in front or behind the pectoral muscle. The surgeon will separate the muscle from the connective tissue to make the pocket in front of or behind the muscle and that is where the implant will go, leaving a minimum scar between 3-4cm in length.
You will be provided with a personalised post-operative recovery plan and painkillers. When you return home, you should take it easy, eat nutritious food and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. It is also important not to lift any heavy weight or raise your arms above 90 degrees.
After 24 hours, Dr Ranieri will carry out a check up and the appropriate post-surgical bra will be fitted. Every patient is different, It should be possible to return to work after around 2 weeks, but a full recovery can take up to 6 weeks.
