Mommy Makeover

Regain your pre-baby body confidence
A mommy makeover is a carefully planned and highly customised surgical approach that targets the specific areas most affected by pregnancy and delivery. After pregnancy, it’s natural for your body to undergo significant changes.

Many women experience loose skin around their abdomen, changes to breast shape or volume, the appearance of stubborn fat deposits and transformations in the intimate area.  To address these changes, an increasing number of women are turning to a mommy makeover, a combination of post-pregnancy surgical procedures designed to enhance body contours, restore self-confidence and support overall well-being after childbirth.

What does a mommy makeover include?

The types of procedures it may include, a tummy tuck, breast lift or breast augmentation, liposuction and labiaplasty.

Breasts

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can adversely affect the shape and volume of your breasts, often leading sagging or a smaller overall size. Depending on individual goals and anatomy, a mommy makeover may include one or more of the following options:

Tummy tuck

The abdomen (tummy) is the area that is impacted the most by pregnancy, with abdominal muscles separated, skin stretched and lax, leaving the tummy looking loose or bulging.  A tummy tuck would address these issues by:

Liposuction

As a result of your pregnancy you may find some stubborn areas of fat accumulation around the hips, thighs, abdomen or waist that is impossible to shift.  Liposuction targets these areas to remove unwanted fat and refine body contours. It is often performed alongside a tummy tuck to create balanced, natural-looking results.

Labiaplasty

Childbirth may cause the labia minora to stretch, becoming enlarged or uneven. Labiaplasty reshapes and reduces the labial tissue to enhance comfort, restore symmetry and improve confidence in intimate moments and every day activities.

Process

How it works

Free consultation

It is necessary to attend a consultation with Dr Ranieri to establish your suitability for the procedure, provide your medical history, discuss your aesthetic goals and desired results. Risks and possible outcomes will be fully explained.

Surgery

The duration of the surgery will depend upon the individual and the type of surgery undertaken, however, as a rule it should typically last between 4 and 6 hours.

Post-operative care plan

If your mommy makeover comprises a tummy tuck, liposuction, labiaplasty and breast augmentation, you will need to ensure you have someone at home who can assist you for the first 24 hours. For the first week, you should focus on rest and recovery.

Recovery

Recovery from a mommy makeover should take between 4 to 6 weeks, however, every patient is different and it depends on the exact nature of your surgery. The first week should be about rest, week two and tree is all about getting stronger, after week four you can return to work (if it doesn’t involve heavy lifting) and you can drive. After the sixth week, you should be able to resume exercise, taking it slowly.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Before undergoing a mommy makeover, Dr Ranieri advises that you give your body plenty of time to recover, ideally you should wait at least 6 months after giving birth and finishing breastfeeding. As with any surgery, you need to be in good overall health, a non-smoker and to be a stable healthy weight, as a tummy tuck is not a weight-loss solution, it is designed to improve the body’s contours. It is also better if patients have completed their families, as future pregnancies can alter the outcome of the surgery in the long-term.

Dr Ranieri advises patients to try to get up and walk (carefully) within the first couple of days after your surgery. Make sure someone is on hand to assist you, in case you feel dizzy or weak. Moving around will help with your circulation and recovery.  However, you need to be aware that you mustn’t rush your recovery, as it usually takes around 6 weeks before you can start getting back to normal activities.

A mommy makeover usually involves multiple procedures in one operation. Because of this, your body needs more time to recover before flying. To reduce the risks associated with air travel, especially deep vein thrombosis (DVT), Dr Ranieri generally recommends avoiding flights for at least 4 to 6 weeks after this type surgery. If travelling sooner is absolutely necessary, only short flights should be considered, and you must follow specific medical precautions such as wearing compression stockings, staying well hydrated and walking regularly during the journey. Long-haul flights should always be postponed until you are fully mobilised and cleared by your surgeon. Your safety is the priority. Dr Ranieri will assess your individual recovery and advise you when it is safe for you to travel again.

There isn’t a specific age when it is better to get a mommy makeover, as each patient has very different needs and goals. In general, Dr Ranieri carries out the majority of mommy makeovers on patients aged between 30 and 40, but it is possible to under these procedures in your 50s or 60s. As long as you are in good general health, your skin has good elasticity and you don’t have any underlying health conditions, you could be a good candidate. To discuss your options, contact Dr Ranieri to request a no-obligation consultation.
